Ahead of the third Test against England at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma has said that the World Test Championship (WTC) is like a World Cup for him and he wants his side to play the finals scheduled for later this year.
If India wins the ongoing series by a margin of 2-1 or more, Virat Kohli and his men would qualify for the finals of the ICC World Test Championship. Notably, New Zealand have already qualified for the WTC final. Currently, India, Australia, and England are in contention for the other spot.
“I am just focused on how to win this series and qualify for the finals of the WTC. I just play one format, WTC is like a World Cup for me, if we play the finals and then we go on to win, the feeling would be the same as winning the World Cup or the Champions Trophy,” said Ishant Sharma, during a virtual press conference.
India are currently in the second spot in the WTC tables, having defeated England by a mammoth 317 runs in the second Test. The series is currently tied at 1-1. However, a defeat in the upcoming third Test, which be played under the light from February 24, will end their WTC ambitions.
