Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the finest red-ball bowlers. Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq feels Team India has wasted Ashwin’s years by not including him in white-ball cricket.
Ashwin made his ODI and T20I debut in 2010 and was a regular player till 2017, when he and Ravindra Jadeja were dropped. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were preferred over them.
While Jadeja returned, Ashwin was recalled for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.
“I feel sorry for Ashwin because he was removed from the white-ball cricket despite being a complete package. They have wasted his years. Ashwin can be economical and take wickets in shorter formats.”
Since last year’s T20 World Cup, Ashwin has been in and out of the team. However, he is a strong contender to play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. “Dropping Ashwin was unfair, and I think coach Rahul and captain Rohit might have had a say in his comeback,” he added.
