India have been successful in white-ball cricket in the last few years. The team made it to the final of the 2023 World Cup and won the T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue also lifted the Asia Cup trophy and even registered victories in the bilateral series at home and in other countries. Rohit Sharma is credited for the success of the unit as he changed the playing approach and style. Although Rohit has retired from T20Is, the team continues to follow his template.

Deep Dasgupta lauded Rohit for the performance of the national team. He commented after India qualified for the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and Dubai. With New Zealand beating Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, Rohit and Mitchell Santner’s team booked their places in the next round of the global tournament.

“Rohit is technically a sound captain, and India have made it to the knockout of another tournament under his captaincy. His biggest contribution to Indian cricket is fearless cricket. When India were knocked out of the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, he decided to move away from the template the team was playing in shorter formats.

“He spoke to the players and told them what he wanted. In order to implement a change, Rohit decided to lead from the front and played attacking cricket in the ODI World Cup in 2023. His teammates understood and started following the skipper,” Sanjay Bangar said.

England had defeated India in a one-sided semi-final of the T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval in 2024, and the new head coach, Rahul Dravid, and Rohit agreed to change the batting style.
