Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi were furious after the third umpire didn’t give the decision in Pakistan’s favour in the T20I Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The incident occurred on the first delivery of the 19th over, when Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka was at the crease. However, the Men in Green had the last laugh as the batter was dismissed on the next ball.
Speaking about the controversy, Shaheen bowled a slow ball, and Shanaka tried to play a flick shot but only managed an edge. Fakhar timed his jump perfectly to complete the catch at short third man. The ground looked clean, but the on-field umpires were not convinced and urged the third official to look into it.
The third umpire, Rashid Riaz, felt that the ball touched the ground when Fakhar completed the catch. He declared the batter not out, leaving Pakistan stunned. Fakhar charged towards the umpires, Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob, to show his disappointment.

Shaheen managed to dismiss the batter on the next ball, and Shanaka had to walk back to the dressing room after scoring 2 runs off 7 balls.
Shaheen and Fakhar were pumped up and celebrated the outcome. They also mocked the third umpire by appealing after looking in his direction. Shaheen raised his arm, asking if that was out.

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first in the T20I Tri-Nation Series final. The visitors were 84/1 in the 11th over but lost the remaining five wickets for 20 runs.
Shaheen and Mohammad Nawaz took three wickets each as Sri Lana were dismissed for 114 in 19.1 overs. For Sri Lanka, Kamil Mishara scored 59 runs off 47 balls, laced with 4 sixes and 2 fours.
Pakistan completed the chase of 115 runs with six wickets in hand. Saim Ayub accumulated 36 runs off 33 balls. Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 37.
