Faf du Plessis has replaced Virat Kohli as RCB captain for IPL 2022, the franchise revealed on Monday during the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru. Faf, who was with Chennai Super Kings in the 14th season of the tournament, was added to the RCB squad during the mega auction.
The management bought him for INR ₹7 crore. He was preferred over Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. While Maxwell and Karthik have led in BBL and IPL, respectively, it was probably du Plessis’ experience of leading South Africa that went in his favour.
He led the national team in 115 matches, winning 81 times. South Africa won 25 of the 40 T20Is played under his leadership. Faf hasn’t been considered by national selectors and even missed the last edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE.
The right-handed batter amassed 633 runs for CSK in the last edition of the tournament.
