England captain Harry Brook has expressed concern over reports suggesting that Pakistan cricketers could be excluded from the upcoming season of The Hundred. According to a BBC report, the four franchises with IPL affiliations might avoid selecting Pakistani players at the 2026 auction.
The new season is expected to bring a substantial rise in player earnings following private investment that has strengthened the tournament’s financial outlook. Four of the eight teams MI London, Manchester Super Giants, Southern Brave and Sunrisers Leeds now operate under partial ownership from entities that also manage Indian Premier League franchises.
However, Pakistani players may not share the benefits of this financial surge. IPL-linked teams have not signed players from Pakistan since 2009, a trend widely associated with strained political relations between the two nations. Brook will feature for Sunrisers Leeds.
Ahead of England’s Super 8 fixture against Sri Lanka, Brook addressed the topic during his media interaction. He highlighted Pakistan’s rich cricketing pedigree and stated that their players possess the skill and star power to elevate The Hundred, both in terms of performance standards and fan engagement.
“Our priority at the moment is the T20 World Cup, so we are not getting involved in matters like that. But I will say this, Pakistan has a proud cricketing history. With around 50 or 60 names in the auction pool, it would be unfortunate if some of those players were not part of the competition. There is immense talent among them, and they also attract strong fan support. Their presence would only enhance the standard and appeal of the tournament,” Brook said.
