Rajasthan Royals have traded their star batsman Robin Uthappa to three-time champions, Chennai Super Kings in the all-cash deal ahead of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. The Rajasthan-based franchise bought Uthappa for Rs 3 crore in the IPL 2020 auction.
The 35-year-old had failed to meet the expectation of his team in IPL 2020.
In the 13th edition of IPL, Uthappa scored 196 runs in 12 matches at a poor average of 16.33 and a strike rate of 119.51.
Royals started the tournament with back-to-back wins in UAE, but they lost their winning momentum after a few games and eventually finished the season in the last position with just 6 wins.
Speaking on the development, RR’s COO, Jake Lush McCrum, “We’d like to thank Robbie for his contribution during his time with us. He provided significant value building into the season in our camps in Guwahati and Nagpur. We do have depth with regards to openers in our squad, therefore when the offer came from CSK, we thought it was a good opportunity for all parties involved. We’d like to wish Robbie all the best for this season at CSK.”
After being traded to MS Dhoni-led side, Uthappa said, “I really enjoyed my year with Royals and had a great time being part of this franchise. I am now excited for the next part of my cricketing journey joining CSK for IPL 2021.”
