Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has lauded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for sensibly handling the issue between Virat vs Sourav. He further added that the main objective of the national team should be to play the game for the country and register victories.

Earlier, Ganguly and Virat issued contradicting statements leading to an unwanted situation. Sourav’s claim that he requested Kohli to continue leading the team in T20Is was categorically denied by the Test skipper.

There were reports that BCCI wanted to hold a press conference to counter the 33-year old revelation but decided against it after internal discussion.

Impressed with how the apex body of Indian cricket managed to keep the matter under control, Butt admitted that biggies did have a word over the matter but managed to keep it under the wraps.

“They did the right thing as it would have created more problems if there was a further exchange of words between the two (Virat vs Sourav),” he said.

“I think they have managed to control the situation as giving half-volleys or full tosses to media could have completed the situation,” he added.
