Former Indian pacer RP Singh has raised questions over the decision to rest captain Rohit Sharma for the five-match T20Is against South Africa.

Rohit Sharma is one of the best batters across formats. After his magnificent performances in limited-overs cricket over the years, the right-handed batter showed his class in Test cricket in 2021.

Rohit was unstoppable in England and played a key role in India’s superb display against the hosts.

Abhishek Nayar, who played a lot of domestic cricket with Rohit, recently spoke to Dinesh Karthik about one setback which changed Sharma’s career.

He was expecting to represent India in the 2011 World Cup but the national selectors ignored him for the global event. The failure to make it to the squad made him more focused and he worked on his weaknesses.

“He was always talented but he failed to justify his selection. Rohit was dropped on a couple of occasions. The setback of 2011 World Cup changed him as a cricketer.

“Rohit went back to the nets and after working on his weaknesses, he had a breakthrough year when MS Dhoni asked him to open the innings in 2013 and the rest is history,” he said.

Rohit is currently leading India in all the formats of the game.
