Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee picked five fast bowlers for the five-match Test series against England. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna. Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh were given the nod. Harshit Rana, who was part of the India A squad, was told to stay back in England with the senior team. Siraj, who was dropped from the white-ball squads after an ordinary Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, was recalled, considering the absence of Mohammed Shami.

Siraj started his Test cricket impressively, but he has lost his wicket-taking ability in the last couple of seasons. Sunil Gavaskar, who has been a flagbearer of Indian cricket even after his retirement, is an admirer of the 31-year-old speedster.

“Every captain wants a bowler like him. He has a habit of firing everyone around him. Siraj bowls wicket-taking deliveries and is aggressive,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Siraj will have to play an important role against England, as Bumrah is only available for three games because of his fitness issues and workload management.

He has taken 100 wickets in 36 red-ball games at an average of 30.74.

Meanwhile, he was among the wicket-takers for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2025.
