South African Test skipper Dean Elgar had asked the big players to play the Test matches instead of going to India for the cash-rich league.

After losing the ODI series, South Africa defeated the Bangladesh side in a two-match Test series which concluded on April 11. The visitors never looked comfortable in a red-ball series, as the home side won the second Test by 332 runs.

Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram were not part of the series as they preferred IPL over the country.

South African Test skipper Dean Elgar had asked the big players to play the Test matches instead of going to India for the cash-rich league. However, his request was turned down, and the players went to feature in the T20 tournament.

South Africa coach Mark Boucher also emphasized that players, who have gone to the sub-continent country, have vacated their spots.

“I do not know if these guys will be selected again. That is out of my hand,” Elgar said in a press conference.

It is to be noted that Cricket South Africa (CSA) has an agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to release players for the Indian Premier League.
