Former cricketer Dinesh Mongia on Tuesday joined Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of assembly elections in Punjab. Mongia, 44, took the primary membership of the national party in Delhi. The left-handed batsman hails from Punjab.
He was famous for his classy batting, and was a part of the squad that reached the finale of the World Cup in 2003. However, the Men in Blue, were defeated by Australia in the most important match of the tournament. Sourav Ganguly was the captain of the team and played a key role in India’s superb run.
In 57 ODIs for India, he amassed 1,230 runs at an average of 27.95. He was the first Indian to play a T20 match. Dinesh achieved the feat while playing for Lancashire in 2004.
