Aakash Chopra has lauded Dinesh Karthik for proving his doubters wrong and making a comeback to the Indian T20I team.

India last won an ICC tournament in 2013 when they defeated England in the finale of the Champions Trophy.

However, since then, it has been a case of failure. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli failed to guide India to another global title.

They have reached the knockout stages, but the lapse in concentration resulted in their ouster.

In the last ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE, the Men in Blue failed to cross the group stage after losing to Pakistan and New Zealand.

The upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia is very important for the team. The sub-continent team will play under Rohit Sharma, and Rahul Dravid after the duo replaced Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri.

When Dinesh Karthik was asked about the team’s failure in the big tournaments, he said it was a combination of many things.

“There is no one thing that is needed to win the World Cups or other ICC trophies for that matter. You need a combination of many things. The batting and bowling will have to make the right execution. You need luck when you go to multi-nation tournaments.”

The Tamil Nadu-based played down the pressure of performance. “Pressure is a privilege at this point. As a sportsperson, you know how to handle it. It comes when you play at the highest level.”
