Dinesh Karthik is still hoping to represent India in international cricket. The veteran wants to be a part of T20 cricket as he can contribute in this format of the game. The 36-year old last played for India in the 2019 World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. Over the last two years, Rishabh Pant has been Team India’s number one wicket-keeper batter.
The chances of Karthik making another comeback are bleak but he is not losing the hope yet. In his interview with ANI, Dinesh said – “I want to play for the country once again and I will try my best to fulfill my goal. The next three years for me is about playing cricket. I love the sport.”
He has been successful in domestic cricket. The right-handed batter led Tamil Nadu to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy while the team finished runners-up in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December 2021.
Karthik said it was good to be a part of Tamil Nadu’s success. “It was nice to contribute in the success. We have a solid group of players. My aim to play for the country and I want to represent India in T20 cricket. The fire is still burning inside me,” he added.
I want to be a finisher for India – Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh wants to finish games for India a department where the team has been found wanting in the recent times.
“I want to be a finisher for the team. We lacked in this department in the last T20 World Cup. My stats show that I have done reasonably well for India and IPL franchise,” said Karthik.
In 32 T20Is, he scored 399 runs at a strike rate of 143.52.
