Former Indian chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar feels Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sarfaraz Khan should have been a part of the Sri Lanka Test series. He feels the national selectors have done injustice to their talent.

Sarfaraz scored 275 from 401 deliveries against Saurashtra at Ahmedabad, laced with 30 fours and seven sixes.

Speaking to TOI, Dilip said that it hardly made sense to ignore the two talented players given their form in domestic cricket.

“It seems the right procedure is not followed while selecting the squad. How can once explain the exclusion of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sarfaraz Khan, who have shown their class in domestic cricket? Looking at the current team, some of the players don’t deserve place in the squad. Let everyone earn their place. Gaikwad and Khan deserve a place. The selectors are damaging their reputation.”

Sarfaraz averages 67.30 in 19 first-class games, scoring 1548 runs with four centuries. He was the fifth-highest run-getter in the 2019-20 edition of the Ranji Trophy with 928 runs.
