Overview:
Jurel’s impressive showings with both bat and gloves have left the team management with little doubt about his inclusion.
On Wednesday, Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach, revealed that Dhruv Jurel will feature in the playing XI for the opening Test against South Africa, set to begin this Friday in Kolkata. Jurel’s impressive showings with both bat and gloves have left the team management with little doubt about his inclusion.
“I’d be quite surprised if both Dhruv and Rishabh aren’t part of the playing XI for this Test,” said ten Doeschate, suggesting that both are likely to be included in the lineup.
“Considering Dhruv’s form over the last six months, along with his two centuries in Bangalore last week, there’s no doubt he’ll be playing this week,” ten Doeschate remarked.
In the second unofficial Test against South Africa A, Jurel scored back-to-back centuries, even though India A lost the match. His recent performances have been magnificent.
“In the West Indies series, Nitish featured in both Tests, and we emphasised the importance of grooming him for the future. So, we definitely see him as a player who’s gaining experience. However, I also said that strategy comes first. The primary focus is always on setting a strategy to win the match,” Doeschate explained.
“Our stance on Nitish remains the same. He didn’t get much playing time in Australia. However, considering the significance of this series and the conditions we expect to encounter, he could miss out this week.”
