India started on a losing note in the ODI series against New Zealand as the host won the opening game by 7 wickets.
Chasing 307, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson stitched an unbeaten partnership of 221 runs to guide their team to a comfortable win in the end.
India are being led by Shikhar Dhawan in Rohit’s absence. Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri opined that the left-hander does not get the kind of praise he deserves because of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“Shikhar is vastly experience and doesn’t get the praise he deserves as the spotlight is on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He has played some of the outstanding innings against big teams. He has an excellent track record in the ODIs,” he said.
Dhawan scored 72 in the opening game of the series against the Kiwis. There were vital contributions from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, and Washington Sundar with the bat.
