Delhi Capitals’ auction strategy left many unimpressed. Having released the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Avesh Khan before the IPL 2022, DC don’t have the same quality that made them one of the favorites over the last two years.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer feels Delhi Capitals lack the confidence going into the new season because they got their auction strategy wrong.
“Delhi made mistakes during the mega auction in Bengaluru. They should have kept the international games in mind while buying players. They chose only seven overseas cricketers when the maximum limit is 8. This Delhi side is not as strong as it used to be. Mandeep Singh or Yash Dhull could open while Sarfaraz Khan could bat at No.3. They will have to make many adjustments to find a suitable playing XI,” Jaffer said during a discussion on ESPNcricinfo.
They let go of R Ashwin and Amit Mishra in the spin department while buying Kuldeep Yadav, who hasn’t been in good form.
Even in the batting department, Shikhar Dhawan was not retained.
“Players like Ashwin and Dhawan were released, and their replacements are not that good,” he added.
