Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said David Warner missed the chance to retire in the best shape of his career. Ponting believes Warner will play in the WTC final in England.
Barring his 200 against South Africa at the MCG in December 2022, Warner has been a failure in red-ball cricket for a long time.
The veteran’s highest score was 15 in three innings in the ongoing Test series in India before he was ruled due to an injury.
“He should have retire after Sydney Test in Australia. He’d just played his 100th Test in Melbourne, and obviously got 200 in the first innings down there.”
“He had an opportunity to call it a day in front of the home fans. I don’t think that chance will come again,” he added.
