David Warner creates history with record-breaking performance against Hobart Hurricanes
David Warner struck his second Big Bash League century, bringing up the milestone with a single on the fourth ball of the 18th over. He then celebrated in his usual fashion.
David Warner reached his century in just 57 balls, marking his first BBL hundred since December 2011. This milestone came 14 years after his debut BBL century, and his joyful smile and celebration showed how much the moment meant to him as he soaked in the applause.
He dynamic performance against the Hobart Hurricanes etched new records, as he blasted nine sixes, the second-most ever by a Sydney Thunder player in a BBL innings. The knock also saw him set the record for the highest individual score by a Sydney Thunder batter in the competition.
At 39 years and 68 days, David Warner set a new record as the oldest player to score a century in BBL history. This innings marked his second-highest score in T20 cricket, surpassed only by his 135 runs for New South Wales in 2011.
Fueled by Warner’s explosive innings, Sydney Thunder posted 205 for 4, their second-highest total against the Hobart Hurricanes. The performance was remarkable for the multitude of records it set in a single game.
Warner also amassed his ninth T20 hundred overall, and equalled the record of Virat Kohli and South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw for the joint third-most centuries in the format.
