Dasun Shanaka IPL 2023 auction
Shanaka slammed an unbeaten 56 off 22 balls in the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka.

Former India player Gautam Gambhir believes Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka would have been the most expensive player in the history of IPL if the auction were to happen today.

Shanaka slammed an unbeaten 56 off 22 balls in the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka on Thursday, January 5. The Lankan skipper went unsold at the IPL 2023 auction.

During an interaction on the Star Sports show ‘Match Point’, Gambhir was asked how much he would pay Shanaka if the auction took place today.

“I won’t have money, he would be that expensive. If the ongoing series had happended before the auction, some of the franchises would not have the money to add him to their squads,” he said.

Gambhir also voted in favor of Axar Patel ahead of Ravindra Jadeja for a place in white-ball squads.

“Axar in limited-overs formats. The reason is because he has grabbed the opportunities with both hands. Axar has done nothing wrong to be benched or dropped. Jadeja will have to wait for his turn,” he added.

He took 2 wickets and conceded just 24 runs in a high-scoring game. The southpaw also slammed 65 runs off 31 balls in India’s run chase in the second T20I against Sri Lanka.

The all-rounder also scored an unbeaten 31 off 20 deliveries in the first game.
