Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka scored a half-century to seal the third T20I against Australia in his team’s favour. His sensational hitting stunned the Aussies, who had won the first two matches of the series.
Dasun became the first player to score 50+ runs in the death overs of a T20I chase. Chasing a target of 177, the hosts were 108/6 at one stage but an unbroken 69-run stand for the seventh wicket between Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne took the home team to an unbelievable victory. SL needed 59 runs off the last 18 balls and went on to win with one delivery to spare.
Shanaka’s 54 came off just 25 deliveries as he slammed five fours and four sixes. Jhye Richardson and Kane Richardson conceding more then 40 runs each, which resulted in Australia’s defeat.
Earlier, David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis batted well for the visitors.
