Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria said that Deepak Chahar could replace Bhuvneshwar Kumar in India’s T20I squad. He feels Chahar is a better bowler than his senior teammate.
While Bhuvneshwar played in the ICC T20 World Cup, Chahar is a part of the ODI squad, which will take on New Zealand in a three-match series.
Kaneria further said that the Indian management must start picking Deepak over Bhuvi in the shortest format.
“Deepak Chahar is injury prone, but he is a better bowler than Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He should replace Bhuvi in the T20I squad,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“Do you want a pacer who concedes 35-40 runs? It’s time to move on from Kumar. There is Prasidh Krishna and T Natarajan as well. India already have Arshdeep Singh. Bhuvi doesn’t seem to have age on his side as far as the 2024 T20 World Cup is concerned,” he said.
The 32-year-old Kumar registered figures of 1/12 and 0/35 against the Kiwis. He gave away 25 runs in two overs in the World Cup semi-final against England.
