Team India’s legendary batter Rohit Sharma has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt.) by Ajeenkya DY Patil University (ADYPU) for his contribution to cricket. The administration of the university had announced that Rohit would be one of the highlights of its 10th Convocation Ceremony in Mumbai.
“He is known as the Hitman of Cricket among his fans, but today marks a different kind of milestone for him,” the university said in a statement.
Dr Ajeenkya D. Y. Patil, who is the President and Chancellor of the university, honoured Rohit for his leadership and contribution to the sport.
” ADYPU recognises the resilience and strategy that Rohit Sharma represents. His qualities resonate with the graduating class of 2026,” the statement added.
The 38-year-old recently played in a three-match series against New Zealand. He failed to score a fifty in three outings as the Men in Blue suffered a 1-2 defeat. The 38-year-old has already retired from T20I and Test cricket, and he is active in the fifty-over format. Rohit is targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup, but the team management and the selectors are not ready to confirm his place.
He will now play in the ODI series against England after the Indian Premier League 2026.
