Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are a cricket team representing the city of Kolkata in the Indian Premier League. The franchise is owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta.
The Knight Riders are also one of the successful teams in the competition. They won the IPL in 2012 and 2014 while they were the runners-up in 2021 and qualified for the playoffs in 2011, 2016, 2017 and 2018. They were also the runners-up in the Champions League T20 in 2014. The team is led by Nitish Rana in the absence of Shreyas Iyer and coached by Chandrakant Pandit.
Kolkata Knight Riders play their home games at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Established in 1864, it is India’s oldest and second-largest cricket stadium and third-largest worldwide. The stadium currently has a capacity of 66,000. It is often referred to as the home of Indian cricket and has also been described as “cricket’s answer to the Colosseum” and called the “Mecca of Indian cricket” because it is the first purpose-built ground for the sport.
