Chennai Super Kings player Shivam Dube expressed the team’s need for captain MS Dhoni in order to grow. Under Dhoni’s guidance, CSK won their fifth Indian Premier League title by defeating the Gujarat Titans in the final of IPL 2023. Dube spoke to Indian Express and emphasized that Dhoni provided him with clear thinking and that the team requires him as a leader for their development.
CSK secured the IPL 2023 championship by defeating GT by five wickets in a thrilling last-ball finish.
Dube mentioned that Dhoni instructed him to increase his run rate, clarifying his role in the team. Dube performed well throughout the season, scoring 418 runs in 16 matches and becoming the third-highest scorer for CSK in IPL 2023.
While GT set a challenging target of 214 for 4 in their innings, thanks to a brilliant knock of 96 runs off 47 balls by B Sai Sudharsan, CSK managed to chase down the revised target of 171 runs after a rain delay in the final. This victory brought CSK level with the Mumbai Indians as the most successful teams in IPL history, both having won the title five times.
After the final, Dhoni confirmed that he would not retire and would continue playing in the next season.
