Aakash Chopra is unsure whether Suryakumar Yadav can play Test cricket for India or not. The 32-year-old has been included in the squad for the first two Test matches against Australia.
The selectors named a 17-member Indian squad, with Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan making the cut due to their performances in white-ball cricket.
“Suryakumar Yadav is in the team, but there is a debate about whether he can play Test cricket or not. He has scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket, but at this point, is that a good or a bad selection?”
Chopra highlighted that SKY hadn’t cemented his place in the ODI squad despite his exploits in T20Is.
“He is not playing in one-day internationals, so will you play him in the Test team? He might be included in the ODI team as KL Rahul is not there for the series against New Zealand. If Surya plays, who will keep the wickets? Then Ishan Kishan will get a chance,” he added.
KL Rahul will miss the three-match ODI series against New Zealand due to his marriage with Athiya Shetty.
