R Ashwin is back to his best in Test cricket. The Indian veteran took 6 wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Ashwin surpassed Kapil Dev in the overall list, with the former reaching 436 scalps in 85 red-ball matches.

Kapil took 434 wickets in 131 matches of the game’s longest format. Ashwin is behind Anil Kumble, who is the leading Indian wicket-taker with 619 wickets under his belt.

The former player played 132 Tests to achieve the milestone and is the fourth highest in the list dominated by Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka with 800 dismissals.

The way Ashwin is performing, he could also break Kumble’s record. When Parthiv Patel was asked about the possibility of Ashwin going past Kumble, he admitted that the current senior member of the Indian team has a chance to become the leading Indian wicket-taker.

“Ravi Ashwin can go past Anil Kumble’s 619 Test Wickets,” he said on Cricbuzz.
