Former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg has backed Ravichandran Ashwin to make a comeback in India’s limited-overs squads. The veteran off-spinner was last seen in a blue jersey during the one-off T20I match against West Indies in July 2017.
With Ashwin having a great run in the longest format of the game, his fans are hoping to see him playing in the white-ball setup yet again.
The 34-year-old recently claimed his 400th Test wicket during the pink-ball match against Joe Root-led side at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ashwin along with young all-rounder, Axar Patel, dismantled England’s batting line-up and guided the hosts towards a magnificent 10-wicket win.
Ashwin scalped three wickets in the first innings of the third Test before registering a four-wicket haul to his name in the second one.
Given the form, Ashwin is currently in with both bat and ball, Hogg believes he could prove to be a match-winner for Team India in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England.
When the 50-year-old was asked by a fan on Twitter whether the Chennai-born off-spinner can be included in the team as an all-rounder, Hogg replied, “I think it is a great option, gives the batting line up extra depth allowing the top order to be more aggressive at the top and he is a wicket-taking option with the ball, as well as economical. Get him back in.”
