Rohit Sharma’s participation in the Test series against South Africa has been put in doubt due to injury. He pulled up his left hamstring. According to ESPNcricinfo, if Rohit is ruled of the series, he will be replaced by the Gujarat batter Priyank Panchal, who has been alerted by BCCI.

His absence will be a blow for India’s chances in South Africa. He has been their highest Test run-getter in 2021. Rohit was recently named vice-captain of the Test squad.

Since moving to open the innings in red-ball cricket, the right-handed batter has scored 1462 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 58.48, with five centuries.

A veteran of 100 first-class matches, Panchal was recently part of India A team which took on South Africa. He registered scores of 96, 24, and 0 in his three innings on tour.
