Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg reckons Ishan Kishan should continue opening for Team India, given the demands of the modern game. Ahead of the third T20I between India and England, Hogg took to Twitter and said that Kishan should be paired with Rohit Sharma at the top of the innings.
“Ishan Kishan has to open with Rohit. The game has changed and you need that aggressive opener at the top,” Brad Hogg wrote on Twitter.
Ishan Kishan made his international debut in the second T20I between the two sides, smashing a brilliant counter-attacking half-century as India won the game by 7 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
If Kishan continues to impress at the top, KL Rahul could get sidelined, given the competition for a place in the middle-order. Rahul has been India’s most consistent player in the shortest format over the past year or so.
In his last 20 T20I innings, Rahul has smashed 664 runs at an average of 39. Despite his failures in the last two matches, it would be harsh on Rahul’s part if he gets dropped from the playing XI.
Talking about Ishan, the youngster scored 56 runs off just 32 deliveries and was named Man of the Match for his exploits. The 22-year-old also stitched a 94-run partnership alongside skipper Virat Kohli which took the game away from England.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Ishan dedicated his award to his coach’s father who passed away recently.
“Really proud and happy and I want to thank all my coaches, seniors, and everyone who helped me get here. Now it’s my time to show them what I’ve got. My coach’s Dad passed away a few days back and he always said that you have to go out and score and I want to dedicate this award to him,” he said.
