India, at present, are playing against Sri Lanka in a multi-format white ball but will soon shift their focus to another big white-ball series against New Zealand at home.
The Kiwis will tour India for a three-match ODI and three T20I series beginning on January 18. The Black Caps have released the squad for the forthcoming tour, but the Indian selectors are yet to provide one.
However, in the latest development, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are not a part of the Sri Lanka T20I series, have also been dropped from the New Zealand T20I series.
A BCCI source revealed the news to Inside Sports and mentioned that the apex board has decided to move on from the legendary duo, as they no longer fit in the Indian side.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t be considered for the New Zealand series. They are not dropped or rested, but we need to move one and prepare a team for the future.”
The move is likely to be the first step towards the board’s plans to phase out senior players, particularly the ones at the wrong end of their 30s.
Also, besides Rohit and Virat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Shami will not be considered for the T20Is as well.
