BCCI annual contract Jasprit Bumrah Shikhar Dhawan
Bumrah's presence in the A+ contract was questioned as he hasn't played for India since last year.

India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah had to miss out on the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 after sustaining a back injury. The BCCI decided not to rush things with Bumrah so that he recovers well before the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

The 28-year-old reported to the NCA to recover from his injury. However, in the latest developments, Bumrah has flown back to Mumbai to continue his recovery from home.

As per reports, a BCCI insider has revealed that Bumrah’s recovery is on track. His latest MRI scans show no stress fracture in the back, as feared earlier. Thus, it is a big plus for India.

The BCCI source confirmed Bumrah’s availability for the T20 World Cup and said he is expected to return for South Africa or Australia series.

An undisclosed BCCI official spoke to InsideSport, and said, “Bumrah’s recovery is on track. Our physio Nitin Patel is in constant touch with him. We are hoping he returns for Australia or South Africa series. But for the T20I World Cup, he would be there.”

Notably, before heading to Australia for the T20 World Cup, India will host Australia and South Africa for a white ball series starting at the end of September.

Alongside Bumrah, another major absentee for India is Harshal Patel, who missed out on the Continental Cup after injuring his ribs. The RCB star was also present with Bumrah at the NCA, but no update has been provided on him.
