BCCI
Roger Binny and Jay Shah to not visit Pakistan

Asia Cup 2023 begins on August 30, with Pakistan taking on Nepal at Multan. Ahead of the campaign opener, the PCB sent invites to all participating board members to come to Pakistan for the opening games, including BCCI board members.

Earlier, there were reports that BCCI president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajeev Shukla have agreed on the invite and would be the first ones from the cricket board in India to travel to Pakistan since the Mumbai attacks. However, in the latest events, a source from BCCI has debunked these rumours and clarified that no BCCI board member will travel to Pakistan.

The source confirmed that Zaka Ashraf, chairman of PCB, gave Jay Shah and Roger Binny a verbal invite at an ICC event in Durban and followed it with a physical invite recently to land in Lahore on September 4 and stay there till the 7th.

“Yes, we received the invitation from PCB, but it is unlikely that anyone will visit Pakistan. Not just the players, but us officials also require the government’s permission to visit Pakistan, and we have not got any.”

A few months ago, there was a lot of ambiguity around the Asia Cup 2023, as ACC had difficulties finalising the hosts for the six-team tournaments before all boards agreed on a hybrid model.
