The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the T20I series against South Africa starting on December 9. Shubman Gill, who was injured during the Test series against the Proteas, has been named in the squad. However, his participation is subject to fitness clearance from the Indian Cricket Board’s COE in Bengaluru.

Gill experienced pain after facing three balls in India’s first innings of the Kolkata Test at the Eden Gardens. He retired hurt amd was admitted to the hospital. He didn’t bat in remainder of the Test, with the host failing to chase 124.

He also missed the second Test in Guwahati as India suffered a defeat by 408 runs. The captain was told to rest and was ruled out of the ongoing three-match series.

Pace all-rounder Hardik Pandya is also back, after proving his fitness in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored an unbeaten 77 off 42 balls to lead Baroda to a 223-run chase against Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This was his first competitive match since India’s last Super-Four fixture against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 in September. Pandya missed the final against Pakistan and was not considered for the Australia tour.

The T20 series will start on December 9, with the second match being in New Chandigarh on December 11. The action will then shift to Dharamsala for the third ODI on December 14, and the fourth ODI will take place in Lucknow on December 17. The fifth and final T20I will be played in Ahmedabad on December 19.
