Overview:
Bangladesh will not send its national team to India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, citing security reasons.
The Bangladesh government has banned the telecast of the Indian Premier League after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders. The authorities have confirmed that broadcast, promotion and events related to coverage of the IPL have been suspended. The decision was taken in the public interest and was approved by the concerned authority.
The order follows the BCCI decision to remove Mustafizur from the KKR squad ahead of IPL 2026. According to the authorities in Bangladesh, the instructions of the Indian Cricket Board lack logical reasoning.
“There is no logical reason for this decision of the BCCI, and their decision has shocked and angered the fans in Bangladesh,” the statement stated.
“The government has suspended IPL telecasts and the activities related to the league until further notice,” the statement added.
Bangladesh will not send its national team to India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, citing security reasons. The exit of the pacer from the IPL forced the BCB to call a meeting. Another meeting of the Board of Directors came to a unanimous decision that Bangladesh will not play in India.
“The board reviewed the situation and expressed concern over the participation of the Bangladesh National Team in India,” the BCB said in a statement.
“After considering the advice of the Bangladesh government and the concern regarding the safety of players in India, the Bangladesh National Team will not travel to India.”
BCB director Khaled Mashud Pilot opened up on the situation. “If India can’t provide security to one of our players, how will they safeguard the entire team? That is why we are not going to play in India,” he said.
The ICC will now take a call as Bangladesh are scheduled to play all their league matches in India.
