Babar will have to bat aggressively to win matches for his team in the Big Bash League. A lot is riding on his shoulders, considering the amount of money the organisers have spent on promotion.
Babar Azam has joined the Sydney Sixers and is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with Steve Smith in the Big Bash League. Babar is one of the star attractions of the new BBL season, and the Pakistani fans are buying tickets in Perth and Sydney to watch their favourite cricketer. The Sydney Sixers will start their campaign on Sunday against the Perth Scorchers, who have won the league five times.
“I am excited to be a part of the Sydney Sixers. You learn a lot by playing in Australia, and it is going to be a good experience for me. I will get a chance to play alongside Steve Smith, who is a great player,” Babar Azam told Telecom Asia Sport.
Apart from Babar, several other Pakistani players will represent different franchises in the league. Mohammad Rizwan will play for Melbourne Renegades, while Shaheen Shah Afridi has been signed by Brisbane Heat.
Haris Rauf is with the Melbourne Stars, while Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and Hasaan Khan will don the jersey of Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers, and Renegades, respectively.
Babar is excited to see the support he is getting from local Pakistan fans. “The Pakistani community in Australia is looking forward to watching games. I have seen excitement in Perth, and when I go to Sydney, there will be more fans. It is nice to entertain them,” he added.
For fans, it is a rare chance to watch Babar in action. The local cricket clubs in Sydney have established a fan zone called Babristan outside the Sydney Cricket Ground.
