Avesh said that his performance in the domestic tournaments and IPL helped him to earn the national call-up.

Avesh Khan was one of the best fast bowlers in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. The young pacer bowled well for Delhi Capitals and played a part in their qualification for the knockouts. He was recently rewarded with a berth for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies.

He was sure about his selection for T20Is but was surprised to read his name in the ODI squad as well. Avesh credited his family for the success he has achieved in his career so far. According to him, he wouldn’t have achieved anything had his family members not helped him.

The 25-year old also highlighted Ricky Ponting’s role in his performance. The former Aussie legend is the head coach of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

In his interview with The Indian Express, Avesh said – “Both Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje were injured and I knew I would get a chance. I knew I would play, but was a bit nervous. Then our coach Ricky Ponting pumped me up by saying, ‘your time has come young man and just show the world how good you are. You have the talent. Show it to the world too.’ Those words really kicked me on.”
