Australian captain Pat Cummins has assured fans that lead spinner Adam Zampa is fit and ready for their 2023 World Cup opener. Zampa had an unfortunate mishap during a swimming session just a day before the crucial clash.

Zampa suffered a facial injury during a swimming accident. It gained attention after a viral picture surfaced from the practice session. Despite the setback, Cummins remains confident in Zampa’s readiness for the tournament.

With Ashton Agar sidelined due to a calf strain, Zampa’s role becomes even more crucial as the frontline spinner in the squad. The New South Wales cricketer boasts an impressive track record in one-day cricket. He has claimed 142 wickets in 85 matches at an average of 29.05, including a notable fifer.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the showdown with India, Cummins provided details of Zampa’s mishap.

“He plunged into the pool’s wall. Zamps said he was swimming into the pool step while thinking he was swimming in a straight line with his eyes closed. He is all good but a bit sore,” Cummins said.

Zampa has a history of success in crucial matches, as demonstrated in the last encounter with India in Chennai. His performance, taking 4/45, played a pivotal role in Australia securing a 21-run victory over the hosts.
