England captain Ben Stokes has won the toss and elected to bat first in the fifth Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

England captain Ben Stokes has won the toss and elected to bat first in the fifth Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Toss Decision – Captain’s Comments & Reasoning

“We will bat first. The conditions are good, and we want to put a good score on the board. You are not sure about the wicket before you play. It was good to win the last Test match. We have added an extra fast bowler, considering the pitch. It was special to win a Test in Australia,” Ben Stokes said.

Australia captain Steve Smith would have batted first as well.

“We would have batted first. It’s nice to win the series. There is a moisture in the pitch and the ball would do a bit. There is grass on the pitch, and it might be a bit slow. Cracks are going to play a big part in the match. It is good that people are coming in large numbers to support Glenn McGrath,” Smith said.
