Overview:
The southpaw posted 18-ball 39 in the semi-final against England. Ishan accumulated a fifty against New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Ishan Kishan was welcomed by fans when he arrived in his hometown of Patna after India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He spoke to the reporters but refused to entertain a query on former player Kirti Azad’s controversial tweet.
After India’s success in the final against New Zealand, captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir and ICC chairman Jay Shah took the trophy to a Hanuman temple near the stadium. Kirti Azad didn’t like the move and hit out at the Men in Blue. He is the Trinamool Congress MP and was a member of the Indian team that won the ODI World Cup in 1983.
“SHAME ON TEAM INDIA! When we won the World Cup under Kapil Dev in 1983, we had Hindu Muslim Sikh and Christian in the team. We brought the trophy to our religious birth place our motherland India Bharat Hindustan. Why The Hell Is The Indian Cricket Trophy is being Dragged? Why NOT a Mosque? Why NOT a Church? Why NOT a Gurudwara? This Team Represents INDIA — not Surya Kumar Yadav’s or Jay Shah’s Family,” Kirti Azad wrote.

Why The Hell Is The Indian Cricket Trophy is being Dragged.…
“Siraj never paraded it at a Mosque. Sanju never took it to a Church. The latter had a major part to play and was the man of the tournament. The Trophy Belongs to 1.4 BILLION Indians of EVERY Faith — NOT ONE RELIGION’S VICTORY LAP,” he added.
Ishan urged the reporter to ask a better question. “We won a good World Cup, and you should have asked better questions. What should I say about what Kirti Azad said? You should ask better question like how we enjoyed,” he said.
Ishan is hoping that India continues to perform strongly in the future. He wants to inspire the next generation of cricketers.
“It is a big thing for the entire nation, and we hope that we continue to win in the future as well. I will try to inspire more players,” he said.
Ishan Kishan was the second-highest run-getter for India, amassing 317 runs. He scored 77 runs off 40 balls against Pakistan and was named the Player of the Match. He also hit a half-century against Namibia.
