Ambati Rayudu mentioned that staying connected to the game is valuable. He emphasized that watching the game keeps him engaged.
Former India player Ambati Rayudu is optimistic about India’s chances in the 2026 T20 World Cup, backing the side under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership to retain their title. Rayudu’s statement comes after India dominated New Zealand by 46 runs in the concluding T20I at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, wrapping up the series 4-1.
As the reigning champions and top-ranked side, India will commence their World Cup campaign in Group A on February 7 against the USA at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The team will then face Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands in New Delhi, Colombo, and Ahmedabad.
“I believe the approach is a bit different from what we’ve seen in the past from other teams. It’s an excellent opportunity, and they seem very motivated and fearless. I feel there’s a real chance here, and without a doubt, we have a team capable of winning the World Cup. Hopefully, everything falls into place for us,” Rayudu told IANS.
This will be India’s first T20 World Cup without Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who retired from T20I format after India’s success in 2024.
“Obviously, their experience will be missed, as they’ve played so well for India. Their presence and experience will certainly be felt, but this is also a fantastic opportunity for the current team, including Surya and the others, to step up and deliver for us,” he added.
Ambati Rayudu mentioned that staying connected to the game is valuable. He emphasized that watching the game keeps him engaged.
“It’s great to stay connected to the game, especially by being involved in analysis after retirement. It’s really beneficial because you’re watching the game, observing it, and bringing in the experience of having played for so many years. Staying connected is always a positive thing.”
