VVS Laxman will likely be Team India's coach for the South Africa and Ireland T20I series.

VVS Laxman feels Shreyas Iyer deserves to play in the first Test match between India and South Africa. He wants the team management to exclude Ajinkya Rahane from the opening game.

Rahane was ruled out of the second Test against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. Iyer, on the other hand, scored a hundred and a fifty in the first Test in Kanpur.

“Ajinkya Rahane cannot play in the first match. Continuity is very important, so I will play Shreyas Iyer because if you give someone two Test matches and the way he batted on debut under pressure.”

According to Laxman, Iyer grabbed the opportunity with both hands and needs to be persisted with.

“He scored a century and a half-century, so I will give that continuity, the confidence that you want to give to a young batsman, I will definitely give that.”
