Former Australia captain Tim Paine has embarked on a new chapter in his career, taking on the roles of assistant coach for the Adelaide Strikers and the Australia A squad in the upcoming BBL 2023-24 season. Paine’s inclusion in the coaching setup brings a wealth of experience to both teams.
Paine, renowned for his 400+ matches representing Australia, has transitioned from his recent retirement from first-class cricket to a coaching role. His extensive familiarity with the game extends to the Big Bash League, where he notably contributed to the Hobart Hurricanes’ performance in 44 matches, accumulating over 1100 runs.
The appointment as assistant coach for the Australia A team aligns strategically with Paine’s experience, just ahead of their series against New Zealand A. His guidance promises to be invaluable to the emerging talents of the sport.
Tim Nielsen, General Manager of the Adelaide Strikers, expressed enthusiasm about Paine’s multifaceted contributions.
“Tim is a fantastic addition to our team and will benefit us greatly this season,” Nielsen added.
“A gifted keeper and Test level batter, Tim will be invaluable working with our players in the field and with the bat.” His ability to deliver effective, straight feedback is outstanding, and we eagerly await his arrival in Adelaide,” he said.
Jason Gillespie, the Head Coach of the Strikers, echoed the sentiment of anticipation.
“Tim has all of the skills to be a fantastic coach, and it’s fantastic for us that he’s decided to join the Strikers as we strive for success this summer,” Gillespie said.
“His experience will undoubtedly benefit our players in all aspects of the game and add more positive elements to the way we play.”
