Indian opener Abhishek Sharma scripted a new world record as he became the first batter to score eight T20I fifties in 25 or fewer balls. The southpaw amassed 84 runs off 35 balls, with the help of 8 sixes and 5 fours in the first T20I between India and New Zealand in Nagpur. He didn’t allow any bowler to settle down and recorded a strike rate of 240.00.
The No.1 batter in T20Is was dismissed on the last delivery of the 12th over, bowled by Ish Sodhi. Abhishek added 99 runs with captain Suryakumar Yadav, who posted 32 runs off 22 balls, including 4 boundaries and 1 maximum.
Abhishek is India’s best batter in the shortest format of the game, and his consistency has played a big role in the team’s unbeaten run since the 2024 T20 World Cup. In 34 T20Is, he has accumulated 1199 runs at an average of 37.46 and a strike rate of 190.92. Abhishek has hit two hundreds, 7 fifties, 112 fours and 81 sixes.
