Abhishek Sharma hasn’t recovered from illness and is likely to miss the upcoming match against Namibia on February 12 in Delhi. Although the left-handed batter played the campaign opener of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against the USA IN Mumbai, he is still down. Abhishek didn’t train on Tuesday, with Sanju Samson putting in extra effort in the nets.

Most players, including all-rounder Washington Sundar, took part in the training session. Team India’s batting coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that Abhishek is still unwell. “Abhishek is having issues with his stomach but we are hopeful of him taking his place in the playing XI,” he said.

Abhishek batted in India’s innings at the Wankhede Stadium, but he didn’t field on February 7. He was dismissed for a duck against the USA.

In Abhishek’s absence, Samson and Ishan Kishan batted in pairs. Samson was dropped from the XI for the game against the USA. The right-handed batter was below par in the five-match series against New Zealand before the global tournament. He scored 46 runs across five innings, and the team management replaced him with Kishan.

He faced Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya and a net bowler, but the wicket-keeper batter looked scratchy.

Abhishek has been in sensational form in the last one year, giving match-winning performances with the bat. He is the No.1 batter in the ICC Rankings for Batters in T20Is.
