At the conclusion of IPL 2021, AB de Villiers was expected to return for the next edition, but the veteran took a sudden retirement from all forms of cricket. Royal Challengers Bangalore had to revise their retention list following De Villiers’ decision and went with Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj.
For the first since calling off his career, he has revealed what triggered the sudden decision, stating that it was IPL 2021 which somehow forced him into retirement.
“I was not enjoying cricket anymore due to bio bubbles in the league and the IPL 2021 made life even more difficult with matches moving from one bubble in India to another one in the UAE. Scoring runs became less important and I realised time has come to bid adieu,” he said.
