Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra feels that the pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be a vital cog if India wants to win the T20 World Cup, to be played on home soil later this year.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was away from the Indian set-up for more than a year owing to his injury concern, made his comeback in the recently-concluded T20I series against England.
Though he managed to pick up just four wickets, Bhuvi managed to put a halt to the flow of the runs. He returned with the figures of 4-0-15-2 in the series decider and was named Man of the Match.
Kumar was the most economical among all the bowlers across the two teams, having bowling at an economy rate of 6.38. Bumrah, on the other hand, missed the series as he got married earlier this week.
In the same light, Aakash Chopra, during an interaction on Star Sports, seemed impressed with Bhuvi as he hailed praises on the bowler saying that after this series, one can proudly say that Bhuvi is back.
“One hundred per cent. If India has to win the 2021 World Cup, it is necessary for Bumrah and Bhuvi to do well. Bumrah is evergreen, he did not have any injury issue. He has been bowling well and his workload is being managed,” he said.
“We were waiting eagerly when Bhuvi will come, the ball will swing and he will take the wickets. He might have taken only four 4 in the series, today he took two wickets but his bowling was sensational and we can say that he is back,” he added.
Also, former wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel reckoned that Bhuvneshwar Kumar moving the ball both ways was one of the biggest positives for Team India from the T20I series against England.
