Joe Root
Gautam Gambhir has heaped praise on England captain Joe Root after his incredible 218-run knock against Virat Kohli-led side.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan finds a way to stay in the limelight with his “out of the blue” punditry. He is also one of the most active former cricketers on social media.

Earlier, Vaughan had declared that Australia would whitewash India in the recently-concluded Test series Down Under. But, after India won the second Test in Melbourne, he predicted that Australia will win the series 3-1.

However, once again, Vaughan was made to swallow his own words, after India defeated Australia 2-1 in the series. Having said that, Vaughan has come up with another controversial tweet surrounding ongoing India vs England Test series.

The 46-year-old has argued that Root averages 70.7 against spin, whereas Kohli averages marginally lesser at 69. He also added Root averages 71.2, and Kohli averages just 53.1 against off-spin.

So, Vaughan has concluded that Root, who scored a double-ton in the first innings, is a better -player of spin than Kohli. However, fans came to Virat’s rescue and slammed the former England skipper.

“Joe Root aves 70.7 v spin, Kohli 69.0 … But against off-spin specifically: Root 71.2, Kohli 53.1. !!! So @root66 is factually a better player of spin than Virat,” Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

Here’s Vaughan’s tweet:

Here’s how Twitter reacted:

In the ongoing Test, England have taken control of the proceedings as the Indian bowlers toiled on a flat surface at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Root added 90 runs to his overnight score of 128 to become the first batsman to score a double century in his 100th Test.

Root struck 19 boundaries and a couple of sixes, including one over long-on to reach his double century. His vigil was finally ended by Shahbaz Nadeem. England ended their first innings at 578. At stumps on Day 3, India were 257/6.
