Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni on Monday won the International Cricket Council (ICC) Spirit of Cricket of the Decade Award for calling back Ian Bell following a controversial run-out at Trent Bridge in Nottingham in 2011.

“MS DHONI wins the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade. The former India captain was chosen by fans unanimously for his gesture of calling back England batsman Ian Bell after a bizarre run out in the Nottingham Test in 2011. #ICCAwards #SpiritOfCricket,” ICC wrote on Twitter.

Dhoni, who announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year, was last seen in action during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in UAE. His last international appearance, however, came during last year’s ICC 50-over World Cup in England.

The 39-year-old will now be seen in action during the upcoming 14th edition of IPL, slated to be played from March-May 2021, having reportedly pulled out of the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Steve Smith won the Test Cricketer of the Decade Award for his commendable transition from being a leg-spinner to the World’s Number 1 batsman in the purest format.

Moreover, Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Decade as well as the ODI Cricketer of the Decade for his astonishing record with the bat in the 50-over format. The run-machine scored more than 20,000 runs across all formats in the past decade.

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan was been named the T20I Cricket of the Decade while Australia’s Ellyse Perry pulled-off a clean sweep in women’s cricket as she was named Female Cricketer of the Decade, Women’s ODI, and T20I Cricketer of the Decade.
